Natalie is my cousin and I was more than excited when I asked her if she wouldn’t mind traveling for this shoot and she said YES. So we headed to Half Moon Bay, a nice little beach town about 15 minutes south of San Francisco. The day could not have been any more perfect. For starters, the weather was PERFECT. Then, when we found the beach we wanted to stop at, we discovered that it was EMPTY. Perfect weather and an entire beach to ourselves. What more could I have asked for??

Funny story about the picture  up top on the left. This pose was Natalie’s idea and when she sat down there we all started laughing. Turns out some of our best shots came while they were sitting in that pose! Sorry Nat for laughing. I’ll never underestimate my models again!

LOVE this one:

I’m not photographing their wedding, but I am taking my camera. And you know what that means! It means I wont be worried about getting the “important” shots and can get some super artsy stuff to show you. Aren’t you excited?? I am!

The Songer Wedding

June 19, 2009

What an incredible couple Joe and Andrea are. I’ve taken many pictures that focus on connection and love but rarely do I come across relationships like this. I’ve known Joe for most of my life and Andrea part of my life. We went to high school together and I’ve seen their relationship sort of blossom over the years. Never did I think I would be their wedding photographer. But I’ve learned something since then: expect the unexpected.

I woke up the day of the wedding and was probably more excited than Andrea or Joe were. I knew that it was going to be a great day that focused on their love and their amazing companionship together. I gathered my gear together, picked up my assistant, and headed to the salon to meet Andrea.

She was STUNNING.

Here are some shots that Kayla (my wonderful assistant) took. Kayla has an amazing eye for details, and without her, there wouldn’t be shots like these. Kayla- I truly appreciate your time and talent! You’re the bomb!

Kayla and I left the girls to finish up and grabbed some lunch. Then we met them out at the church were Joe and Andrea were getting married. Most of the bridesmaids went to high school together and spent most of the day interacting like this. Such a fun group to be around!

Just a few finishing touches before we started the many hours of pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures!

First up: the Girls. It was probably 102° outside, which may not seem hot, but when you’ve been used to 70° weather in May and you are in thick dresses- IT’S HOTTER THAN HOT. Lucky for the girls, when we were done, they went back to the church and lounged around for about 2 hours.

I love this bridal of Andrea. She needed a little break, so I suggested taking a swing. Little did I know they would come to be my favorite shots of the day!

I sent them back and rounded up the boys to head to these really awesome rice silo’s. This was yet another favorite part of the day!

Once we wrapped up I headed back to the church to get some details shots which are below. I wanted to try something a little unconventional with the rings and found this neat idea from a photographer I follow. I also spent a lot of time at that candy table while everyone was eating. I love me some sour punch straws! :)

The wedding happened and there wasn’t a dry eye in the whole place. It was a beautiful ceremony but I would really be posting TOO MUCH if I posted them. I am already over my limit, aren’t I? So after the ceremony I took the entire bridal party to this beautiful house in the Sutter Buttes. How did we stumble upon this gem you ask? Well it’s actually a funny story. Joe, Andrea, and I were driving the week before scouting locations when we drove past this property. We decided to be brave and knock on the door and ask if we could borrow their beautiful land for the wedding. The lady was extremely accommodating and said we could pretty much take pictures wherever we would like! And so that is exactly what we did. :)

And now for the REAL beauties. I can’t even describe their connection. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

The night was wrapped up with a wonderful reception. It was extremely relaxed and just enjoyable. The perfect way to end the perfect day.

Doesn’t that just seem like a wedding you would want to attend? 100% enjoyable. 100% beautiful. 100% REAL.

Until next time…

So when I found out that I would be shooting these kids (you know what I mean!) I tried to think of something that they would enjoy doing and that would work well as a session. I figured food makes any kid happy and when I found out that Max had a “little bakers” hat and apron and everything else I decided that making cookies would be perfect. So I went to the store the day before and got everything needed.

Fast forward one day to the shoot. We get everything set up and bring the kids down. “Hey kids! Wanna make some cookies?!?”

“Yeah!!!” they scream.

I figured the kids would be messy and crazy but I never expected Leilani, Max’s mom to instigate some of it! You’ll see what I mean in the photos. If I remember correctly, she fed Max spoonfuls of frosting which he enjoyed very much.

They finished decorating their cookies and declared that they were done. We started to clean up and as soon as we turned our backs we heard giggling. I grabbed my camera and turned around to find the bunch drinking the day away in sprinkles. I don’t think I have ever laughed harder in my life.

Kids- gotta love em!

the yaney family

June 8, 2009

hello, it is me. i have returned to my blog to show it some much needed LOVE. As you can see I have UPDATED things around here. Pretty spiffy, eh? I’ll still be making tweeks here and there, but for the most part I love it! And the best thing about it is that it presents photos so well! Nice and big! Good. :) Alright, enough- on to BETTER THINGS…

Say hello to BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE.

When I emailed Terra with the idea of something extremely casual in an attempt to capture connection vs. perfection I had no idea I would get way more than I asked for! What an amazing group and their love for each other gives me warm fuzzies. I love meeting people like the Yaney’s.

Terra- Thank you so much for sharing your family for the short hour we were together. Your happiness is unique. I hope you love these moments captured forever. :)
